SUMMER 2023

Rachyl Nyoka

Corn Rows

These paintings are part of an ongoing series exploring the quantum physics concept of empty space or voidspace. Each piece begins as an expressive abstract and the subject emerges only after the piece is imbued with its initial energy (like the background radiation of space).

Emergence

This occurs either in a sculpting-like manner where the subject is carved away from the background such as with “Emergence,” or in a seemingly subconscious projection imprinted into the abstract background and built upon, as with “Lineage.”

Gift

I work in acrylics and my pieces tend to be sized to evoke an intimacy between the piece and the viewer; I want viewers to get close and experience the accompanying energy, dynamism, and subtlety of the work.
