SPRING 2022

The Frog Chorus

by NICOLE GRACE

Hurtling through near darkness on
Space Mountain wondering how
anyone found this death-tease fun
or on any list of the Happiest Places

on Earth, I thought of that spring
hike—wildflowers trilling a thousand
different songs, my boots loshing
over damp dirt trail and the smell

no the perfume of it all under a still
cool-ish sun—and I understood so
clearly how I would make my way
in this world from that point on,

my heart joining the frog chorus
that so few might even hear let alone
join, holding hands with the ocean
that outcast daring me to breathe with

her music out on the dazzling horizon
